Student Visas

It is essential that all prospective overseas applicants check information about visa requirements and applications on the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) website [www.immi.gov.au/students]. You should also note requirements and costs associated with a spouse and dependant children.

The website also lists DIAC offices worldwide to which you can apply for your visa, and provides for online visa applications for some countries.

To apply for a student visa, you will either have to produce your:

  1. Confirmation of Enrolment from us (this will be provided once your Acceptance and Payment Agreement is completed and sent together with course fees); or

  2. Your unconditional Letter of Offer from us (this generally only applies if you are applying from outside Australia and are from an Assessment Level 3 or 4 country).

You must also be able to meet the Australian Government financial capability test by having sufficient funds for travel (return airfare), tuition(course fees) and living expenses (calculated at AUD$17,000 annually).

Unsuccessful visa application

If you are refused a student visa, you are entitled to a full refund of your student fees, less a $500 administrative charge.  Contact us in writing and include your official receipt and copy of letter advising your visa application was unsuccessful.  Your refund will be paid within 4 weeks of receipt.

Student Visa Compliance Obligations

To comply with visa requirements, students must attend at least 80% of all scheduled classes and achieve satisfactory academic progress. We are responsible to report any breaches of these obligations to DIAC which can impact upon your visa.

Your student visa will be subject to a number of conditions. These conditions will appear on your visa label in your passport. You must understand and comply with these conditions otherwise you could be required to leave Australia as we must report breaches. You may be reported and your visa cancelled if you:

  • do not meet course requirements
  • do not meet attendance requirements
  • do not maintain your Overseas Student Health Cover
  • do not provide MEG with your address or change of address details within seven days of arriving in Australia or changing your address
  • work without a valid work permit, or you work more than the maximum number of hours permitted on a student visa
  • take leave of absence or an extended break from your studies without approval
  • enrol in less than a full-time load (unless it is your final semester and you have approval from the Head of Vocational Studies or nominee)
