Costs for Studying in Melbourne

Melbourne is an affordable city to live in and costs less than most other Australian capital cities. Before lodging your enrolment application you should consider whether you would have enough money to cover:

  • Living expenses;
  • Air fares;
  • Course tuition fees;
  • Overseas student health cover (OSHC); and
  • General expenses including books and other items required during your stay in Australia.


 
The expected living costs is approximately AUD$17,000 per annum if you are single. An additional 35% per annum if you have a spouse; and a further 20% per annum for each child (plus AUD$8,000 per annum per child for the cost of schooling).

 

Work Opportunities

New permission to work arrangements for student visa holders

From 26 April 2008, people granted student visas will automatically receive permission to work with their visa grant. Most student visa holders will no longer need to apply separately in Australia for permission to work.
